Aug. 19, 2008 — Jerry Douglas titled his last album Best Kept Secret, a rather humorous nod to the fact that while he’s well-known on Nashville’s Music Row, he’s not quite a household name with the general public.

That’s begun to change in recent years, in part because when he signed up with Alison Krauss’ band, they agreed to tack his name onto the official banner: Alison Krauss + Union Station Featuring Jerry Douglas. And in that setting, he always gets a chance to tear through a solo set that shows off his unworldly skill on the instrument.

July 21, 2008 — Alison Krauss and Robert Plant performed this weekend in Nashville on what was originally set as the final show of their Raising Sand Tour.

They’re both old pros: She signed her first recording contract when she was a mere 14 years old, and he’d already been making music even before Led Zeppelin launched at the end of the 1960s. But there’s nothing old about the way they interpret their music — in fact, their performances are so spontaneous that they never know what to expect until the moment arrives, and because they don’t know exactly what they other will be doing, their shows have a fair share of mistakes.
